Tesla Roadster price: what Tesla has actually announced

Published · every figure below is read from the dataset at build time, last · methodology

Tesla unveiled the second-generation Roadster on 15 October 2026, nine years after it first showed the car. What it did not show was a price. Here is everything Tesla has actually put a number on, kept apart from the estimates that fill most coverage.

What Tesla has priced: the reservation deposits

Tesla Roadster reservation deposits in the US
VersionDepositNote
Performance$50,000reservation open
Thrust$250,000with the "acceleration thrusters"
Rocket—a single-seater, by invitation only

A deposit is not the price. It holds a place in the queue; Tesla said nothing about what the car itself will cost in any version. The Performance deposit is reported to be taken as $5,000 at reservation and the remaining $45,000 within ten days.

The price everyone quotes: $200,000, from 2017

The figure most articles still give, $200,000 for the base car and $250,000 for the Founders Series, is what Tesla announced in November 2017. Nine years, a redesign and a "thrust" option later, nobody outside Tesla knows whether it still holds. Treat any 2026 "price" that is not a deposit as an estimate.

When it ships

Elon Musk said on stage that production would begin in 2028. There is no delivery date, and the specifications of the versions beyond the demonstrated sub-one-second 0–60 mph run were not published.

The deposit in every country

Tesla does not convert the US figure: it sets the deposit in each country's own currency, in round numbers — £50,000 in the UK, €50,000 across the eurozone, CHF 50,000 in Switzerland. At today's exchange rates that makes it cheapest in Japan ($43,141) and dearest in the United Kingdom ($66,308). Part is due at reservation and the rest within ten days. The full table is on the Tesla Roadster price by country page.

Will it cost more outside the US?

Probably, if Tesla's other cars are a guide: outside the US, import duty, VAT and registration taxes are added on top of the car's price, and they differ widely by country. Once Tesla publishes a price in more than one country, we will price it here like everything else.
