Glossary

Every term as this site uses it, with a live figure from today's data.

Benchmark ratio
A price divided by the same plan's price in the country you are comparing against. 1.0 is parity; 0.5 is half the price. It drives every colour on this site.
Billing period
monthly, yearly or one-time. Yearly prices are divided by twelve for income comparisons; one-time purchases are never folded into a per-month ranking.
GNI per capita, PPP
Gross national income per person, adjusted for what money actually buys locally. World Bank indicator NY.GNP.PCAP.PP.CD. India: $11,600 (2025).
Income share
A monthly price as a percentage of one month of GNI per capita, PPP. Netflix in India is $5.18 a month — 0.54% of a month's average income.
List price
The price a storefront publishes for a market, before promotions, bundles and carrier deals. It is not a quote, and not a promise you can buy at it.
Price gap
The distance between a product's cheapest and dearest priced market. The widest we hold is Boomplay: its dearest market charges 19× the price in its cheapest.
Regional pricing
A vendor charging different prices in different countries for the same product — normally to match local purchasing power, tax or competition. It is why this site exists.
Storefront
The shop that sells you the product in your market: the vendor’s own checkout, or an app store. The same subscription bought through a store can cost measurably more, which is why the vendor’s own price is the one published here.
Standard basket
6 everyday subscriptions added up per country; a country is ranked on it only where all of them are priced, so totals compare like with like: Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Disney+, Apple Music, Google One.
World median
The middle price across every country we hold for that product and plan. Half the markets are above it, half below.
