What is different about AI subscriptions
Region-switching an AI assistant is not quite the same exercise as a streaming service, and the differences matter more than the price table:
- Your billing country is set at signup, not at login. Unlike a video service that checks where you are streaming from, these subscriptions generally price on the payment profile attached to the account. Once subscribed, day-to-day use does not need a VPN.
- The card matters more than the connection. Every one of these four runs payment-side country checks. A mismatched card is the usual reason a regional signup fails — not the IP address.
- Enterprise and team plans behave differently. Team tiers are often billed through a separate flow with its own tax handling, so the individual-plan saving does not always carry across.
- Model access is identical. There is no cheaper-country variant with fewer features. The product is the same everywhere; only the price tier changes.
Is it worth it?
